Clapham Picturehouse, 76 Venn St, London SW4 0AT

This new documentary on Miles Davis, one of the most influential trumpeters in the history of jazz, follows his career progression from his bebop years to his groundbreaking 1960s quintet and subsequent electric work. There are new interviews with collaborators Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones and Ron Carter, as well with his children and first wife Frances Taylor Davis, cover star of Davis classics such as ‘Someday My Prince Will Come’. Birth Of The Cool is one of the rare Davis docs that moves beyond the rebel mystique to give an intricate, nuanced portrait of a complex, ever-evolving musician.
