Studio Voltaire

Join Studio Voltaire with London LGBT+ Forums’ Network this September for two special workshops, where we will invite your suggestions of people, places and significant moments from LGBTQIA+ history to create five new ‘Rainbow Plaques’, which will serve as a permanent homage to queer communities across London.

‘Rainbow Plaques’ is a national scheme that identifies hidden and lost LGBTQIA+ heritage whilst highlighting the importance of visibility of queer communities in our streets and public spaces. The project was originally established by York Civic Trust with York LGBT Forum in 2018 to honour lesbian diarist Anne Lister (1791–1840).

This new programme of Rainbow Plaques is generously supported by The Mayor of London’s Untold Stories Fund part of his Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm, with additional support from Wandsworth Oasis and builds upon existing work established by Wandsworth LGBTQ+ Forum and Studio Voltaire in creating permanent plaques for Oscar Wilde at Clapham Junction Station and My Beautiful Laundrette on Wilcox Road in 2019 and 2021 respectively.

Join us for an informal sharing session where you will hear more about the project and plans for the new plaques, have an opportunity to present your idea and learn how you can be involved. For further information about the project, or if you can’t attend but have an idea for a plaque, get in touch with David on: LondonLGBTForumsNetwork@outlook.com

Free; all welcome!
Booking essential as placed limited, refreshments provided.
