The Bread and Roses

“This is the story of the year I spent in colourful, aggressive, neurotic Israel and how I survived. How my parents visited once and nearly disowned me; how my husband found God and then I sabotaged his Orthodox Bar Mitzvah. And how amid all of this… I learned to surf.”

After its premiere at JW3 in London last July, and several performances to rapt audiences at Camden Fringe, Theatre Palisades (Los Angeles), and Alsaraya Jaffa Theatre (Tel Aviv), Surfing the Holyland is coming to Clapham for a few nights at The Bread and Roses Theatre before heading to Brighton and beyond!

Erin Hunter performs in this dynamic 70 minute one-woman show that delivers a healthy dose of laughter. Twelve characters at a breakneck pace, four comedy songs accompanied by the ukulele, and one wide-eyed American transplant in exotic Tel Aviv blur the lines between comedy, drama and musical theatre. Ultimately, it’s a story about hope, transformation, and how one immigrant finds her inner chutzpah on a surfboard.

“Quirky and funny and gorgeous” (Josephine Burton, Dash Arts)

“Erin Hunter, giving the best performance of the evening.” (Lyn Gardner, The Guardian, SALSA SAVED THE GIRLS)

“The best one person show.” (Todd, Camden Fringe audience member)
