London In Bloom

In 2017 This is Clapham entered the London In Bloom Awards for the first time and are pleased to have been awarded a silver in the London Business Improvement District category. The judges visited Clapham in July and  were shown hanging baskets and planted areas which are now maintained by the This is Clapham BID using the BID levy.

This is Clapham maintains 30 hanging baskets across the area and employs two ex-homeless people 6 hours a week to maintain green spaces across Clapham, in partnerhsip with St Mungos homlessness charity. This includes the planted areas around the Old Town Piazza and an urban orchard on Landor Road.

The London In Bloom Judges awarded Clapham a silver and stated –  “This is an encouraging first entry and the judges were interested to hear about ideas for future developments, we look forward to seeing more cohesive horticulture amid the continued enhancement of this busy and thriving area of London.”

In addition the staff at the Clapham  North Underground Station also won first prize in the London Underground In Bloom competition in the Indoor Garden category. This is the second year Clapham North Station have entered the awards and their results have improved year on year. Station manage Jason Prentis (centre) stated – “this is just reward for all my staff who dedicate themselves to creating a welcoming and community atmosphere at Clapham North Station. The flowers, classical music, the book exchange and thought of the day board all contribute towards making the 7 million journeys made at Clapham North a more enjoyable experience.”
