This is Clapham and its partners, the Clapham Methodist Church and Crusader Medical were thrilled to join Home Office Minister Victoria Atkins MP and the Portman Group at a Parliamentary reception last week, which showcased the Clapham Hub Safe Space.

MPs, NHS, Police and businesses saw how partnership-led safe spaces provide a haven for vulnerable people and can provide treatment for minor injuries and creating a better visitor environment in the UK’s night-time economy and reducing the impact on public services.

The event included an interactive session with the team from the Clapham Night Hub safe space, which was recently featured as a case study in the Portman Group’s audit of safe spaces operating in the UK.

The Clapham Hub is one of series of initiatives funded by local businesses through the This is Clapham BID,  which has reduced crime and anti-social behaviour in Clapham at weekends by 40%.

In the last 15 month the Hub has supported 1,046 people of which 583 were treated by the onsite medical team for minor injuries. The remaining 461 accessed the Hub to seek help and support in getting home safely. It is estimated that the services saves the NHS £88k a year and has made a significant contribution to the 40% reduction in crime in Clapham.
