TEDxClapham: Growing Underground

10:30 am - 5:00 pm
Sunday, June 17, 2018

The Clapham Grand, 21-25 St John's Hill, London, SW11 1TT

Richard Ballard from Clapham’s very own underground urban farm will be speaking at TEDxClapham on the 17 June.

Richard started an agricultural revolution along with business partner Steven Dring in the form of Growing Underground. Located 100ft under the streets of Clapham in disused WW2 Air Raid Shelter, this subterranean urban farm sustainably produces micro-greens using the latest LED technology. The duo are now delivering fresh hyper local produce to retailers and the London wholesale markets.

Growth is unavoidable; we see it everywhere. Technology is developing, populations are increasing, tensions are building, cities are widening, seas are rising. We all want to move forwards and fast, because without growth decay begins.

Inspiring speakers from across the globe will descend on The Clapham Grand as part of TEDx’s third event in Clapham. The theme this year is ‘grow’ with experts discussing their take on the topic, from the father-child relationship to why the millennials of today will drive a new age of ‘piratism’ to how plastic isn’t just infiltrating our oceans, but also our diet.
