The Bread and Roses

The Bread & Roses Theatre is calling for your support! We’re in the process of fundraising for a state-of-the-art lighting rig to enhance our venue.

As we approach our 10th birthday, we’re committed to elevating the experience for both visiting companies and audiences. If you’ve visited our space before, you’re familiar with its limitations, and the significant advantages this upgrade will bring to the artists we collaborate with regularly. This investment will grant us greater flexibility in design and modernise our beloved venue. (R.I.P to the canoe and scaff)

Like many fringe venues, we don’t receive core funding, 94% of our income is generated from ticket sales. Looking ahead, it’s crucial that we continue providing opportunities to the freelance creative community. Our guiding principle has always been to prioritise artistic excellence and inclusivity in our programming, which showcases both visiting companies and our in-house productions and each year, we offer a platform to numerous established and emerging theatre makers, enabling them to stage and promote their work.

Beyond being a performance space, our venue serves as a creative nexus, fostering equal opportunities, programs, playwriting opportunities and support, particularly for women, LGBTQ+ individuals, global majority and working-class creatives. As a small company with minimal overheads, your participation in or contribution to The Bread & Roses Theatre fundraiser will directly impact our ability to continue presenting entertaining and thought-provoking shows.
