This is Clapham win Met Police Award
Clapham BID and Safer London Business Partnership have recently won a silver award at the Problem Orientated Partnership (POP) Awards 2016. The POP Awards recognise best practice in crime prevention projects within the capital, where partner agencies have applied rational and evidence–based analysis of problems and their solutions within a policing context.
James Lawley-Barrett, Operations Director of Safer London, Jeremy Keates, This is Clapham BID Manager, Andy McDermott, Clapham head warden and Sgt Tony Jarred from the Metropolitan Police delivered a presentation at Empress State Building which outlined the work undertaken in Clapham High Street in the London Borough of Lambeth. Targeted interventions within the night time economy have significantly reduced levels of crime, anti-social behaviour and intoxication, leading to the establishment of a consistent night-time economy security framework that continues to this day.
Councillor Jonathan Glanz, Chairman of Safer London Business Partnership commented on the awards:
‘The partnership work carried out in Clapham has been outstanding and fully deserving of London-wide recognition. The increased and closer interaction between various agencies and local residents and businesses has undoubtedly led to increased and better prevention and detection of crime, improved community safety of locals and visitors, and greater community cohesion. My sincere thanks go out to the team for their continuing hard work.’
Superintendent Roy Smith, Metropolitan Police was fundamental to the support of the project:
‘The partnership work delivered in Clapham has demonstrated that when the local community, police, businesses and voluntary organisations come together not only can we increase visitor numbers but we can reduce crime and make the area safer. The range of tactics used in Clapham could be just effective in any town centre with a vibrant night time economy and I would urge people to borrow with pride.
